With a new year comes a time to start your New Year commitment to your health. After the difficult year we all faced in 2020 we all need a new start. Faced with this new clean slate, we can all create wellness goals.

Studies show that around 80% of New Year’s resolutions are abandoned by February. This shows how difficult it can be to make major adjustments and maintain them. While we are all dreaming big, we also look to be realistic with our goals.

What do we suggest then? Slow and steady wins this race, commit to small, achievable and impactful health resolutions.

New Year Health Resolution #1: Walk Around the Block

If your New Year health resolutions include exercising, consider taking a good old-fashioned walk. Walking doesn’t require a gym membership, fancy equipment, or even a YouTube tutorial. If you have a pair of sneakers and 10 minutes, you’re ready to start working on your wellness.

New Year Health Resolution #2: Restore with a Sleep Routine

According to research by the CDC, more than a third of American adults don’t get enough sleep. Getting more sleep is easier said than done. But in committing to a nightly sleep routine, you can set yourself up for success. Use these tips from the National Sleep Foundation to prepare your mind and body for bedtime.

  • Wind down
  • Dim the lights
  • Turn off your screens

New Year Health Resolution #3: Check-Up with Your Doctor

When was the last time you saw a doctor? This is one of the easiest New Year health resolutions to knock out: Simply pick up the phone, make an appointment, and set aside an hour or so.

New Year Health Resolution #4: Reexamine Skincare

Take a look at the ingredient list on your favorite skincare products. How many of them are man-made versus natural ingredients? If not, reconsider putting them on your skin.

New Year Health Resolution #5: Meditation for Balance

Your New Year health resolutions should not only include physical health but mental health as well. A healthy mind & body goes hand-in-hand.

The best part,YouTube has plenty of guided meditations for beginners.

New Year Health Resolution #6: Pantry Clean Out

Do your New Year health resolutions include eating better? Start with giving your pantry a deep clean. You don’t have to buy out health food stores to ditch the junk, just making minor adjustments will make all the difference.

New Year Health Resolution #7: Water is Life

In theory, drinking more water is an easy New Year health resolution. But if you find yourself forgetting to hydrate, consider the following tips:

  • BYO water bottle
  • Replace other drinks with water
  • Drink one glass of water before each meal
  • Add a little flavor

New Year Health Resolution #8: A Trip Just in Time

If a big trip isn’t in the books this year, a long weekend or a staycation will do nicely. No matter your destination, be sure to disconnect from your work life and tune in to the world in front of you.

Cheers to Good Health and a Happy New Year!
